Mother’s Nulens headlight kit assessment
Mother’s headlight restoration kit will restore your cloudy headlights back to new ones. Headlights get hazy because the acrylic lens gets oxidized due to exposure to the Sun after a long duration.
What’s in the box?
- PowerBall 4Lights® Polishing Tool
- Quick Swap 3” Backing Plate
- Headlight Lens Restoration Discs ( 2 pieces 800, 2 pieces 1500, and 1 3000 grit)
- 8 fl. oz. / 236mL Polish
Since this is a drill-used kit the assumption is that you already have one. In addition masking tape, water, and clean microfibre towels will be required.
Step 1
Clean the headlight dirt and wipe it clean with a dry towel.
Step 2
Since this kit requires sanding tape the areas around the headlight to prevent damaging the paint.
Step 3
Attach the backing plate to the drill and stick the 800 grit sandpaper to it. Wet the headlight lens and the backing plate, then sand the headlight at a moderate speed applying light pressure. Ensure there is enough moisture to keep sanding. Sand in a hash pattern to ensure even cutting. Use 400 to 600 rpm on the speed setting of the drill.
Work on all areas and wipe to check results. Ensure there is an even haze on the headlight before proceeding to the next stage. When done wipe the headlight clean of all residue.
Step 4
Using the 1500 grit repeat the same technique used in step 3. Do the same with the 3000 grit as well. When using the 3000 grit increase the drill speed to 1300 to 1500 rpm. After all the sanding is done the headlight should be clearer with an even white haze.
Step 5
Attach the polishing ball to the drill and apply a small amount of polish to the ball. Begging polishing with a slow speed to prevent slinging then increase speed to polish thoroughly. Work the compound until the headlight is clear. Wipe clean and confirm the results, if not clear repeat the process again to your satisfaction. Wipe clean and the process is completed.
Summary
The kit does a great job of removing oxidation and restoring headlights to new ones again.
However, the single sanding disk is a bit mean and no UV protection is provided. There is also the fact that you will need a drill, water, microfibre towels, and masking tape to get the job done.
