Rain X headlight kit evaluation
RainX has two types of kits for sale. Rain X premium kit was the first release. The kit requires more tools to get the job done, and because of this, the second kit was made. A headlight can be restored fully with the second kit without any add-ons, making it more desirable.

Rain X premium restoration kit
The Premium kit includes:
- Nitrile gloves
- Drill attachment
- Buffing pad
- Buffing polish
- Headlight sealant wipe
- 2 brown 1500-grit sanding disks
- 1 grey 3200 grit sanding disk
- 1 blue 4000-grit sanding disk
Step 1
Tape the surrounding areas around the headlight to protect the paint from damage.
Step 2
Wipe the headlight clean with water or glass cleaner to ensure working on a clean surface. Wipe the area clean when done.
Step 3
Attach the drill pad to the drill, then attach the 1500-grit sandpaper to the disk. Wet the surface of the headlight and the drill and begin sanding on a slow setting. While sanding, ensure that the surface is always wet for lubrication to avoid clogging the pad.
Once the headlight is evenly hazy and no patches are visible, wipe the headlight clean and advance to the following sandpaper.
Step 4
Repeat step 3 using the grey and blue sandpaper at the end, in which the headlight will be more visible and will be ready for the next stage. If the headlights are still hazy, then that is normal when sanding.
Step 5
Remove the sanding pad and attach the buffing pad. Apply the buffing compound to the pad and begin buffing the headlight. Always ensure the surface is clean before starting.
Spread the buffing liquid evenly and begin to buff the headlight. Work the surface until the compound disappears and the headlight becomes clear.
Rinse the surface and wipe clean for the next stage.
Step 6
Put on the nitrile gloves and remove the sealant wipe from the bag. Apply the sealant on the headlight and ensure all the lens is covered. Turn the wipe to a different side to get a new wet surface. Once done, leave the sealant to dry for an hour and fully cure for a day.
For a smooth process, always ensure the preparation is done to both headlights before using the sealant wipe because it dries fast.
Rain X headlight restoration kit
The headlight restoration kit contains:
- Spray lubricant
- Polishing pads
- Headlight restorer
- Headlight sealant
- Microfiber cloth
Step 1
Tape the surrounding area of the headlight to avoid damaging the paint.
Step 2
Wipe the headlight surface clean with a cloth and water to begin restoration
Step 4
Take the spray lubricant and apply it to the headlight lens and the polishing pads. Since the pads are numbered, we begin with pad number one. Sand the surface until uniformly hazy. Wipe the surface clean and proceed to the next pad.
Step 5
Repeat step 4 with pad numbers 2 and 3
Step 6
Take the headlight restorer and the towel provided. Apply the compound on the towel and buff the headlight lens. This is done to refine the surface further and remove scratches from the last stage. Work on the headlight for a few minutes, then wipe the residue off and rinse the surface for the next step.
Step 7
Take the headlight sealant and spray it on a towel or paper cloth and apply it evenly on the headlight surface. The sealant should be dry within an hour and fully cured within a day or 24 hours.
Repeat the steps above with the other headlight.
Summary
The kit, like others, is holistic, i.e., it covers correction, restoration, and protection.
Its main drawbacks include:
- It needs more than what is provided in the kit. You will need 2 to 3 more towels, a spray bottle with water, and masking/painter’s tape.
- The premium kit only has wipes that do not have enough sealant to protect the headlight in the long run.
- Of the two, avoid the premium kit because of the wipes. It also needs a drill to get the job done.
